Inleiding
Fleischmann had een eigen systeem met bijbehorend protocol, het FMZ-protocol. "FMZ" staat voor "Fleischmann MehrZugsteuerung". Het protocol is met geen enkel ander protocol uitwisselbaar. Apparatuur voor het "FMZ"-protocol is alleen voor "FMZ" te gebruiken en met multiprotocol digitale centrales.
Aantal locomotieven
Met het "FMZ"-protocol zijn maximaal 119 locomotieven adresseerbaar. Het eigenlijke rijden kan met maximaal 32 locomotieven. Het aantal adressen moet gedeeld worden met de digitale accessoires, zoals wissel- en seindecoders.
Aantal rijstappen
Het "FMZ"-protocol ondersteunt 15 rijstappen.
Geen ondersteuning
Omdat het "FMZ"-systeem niet echt aansloeg, heeft Fleischmann al zeer snel een centrale en decoders uitgebracht die naast het "FMZ"-protocol, ook het DCC protocol ondersteunen. Tegenwoordig levert Fleischmann geen produkten meer voor het "FMZ"-systeem. Een aantal oudere digitale centrales van Fleischmann ondersteunen nog het "FMZ"-protocol.
